Indoor Select Teams

Program Overview: Select is another competitive FHL program, intended for dedicated field hockey athletes who want to further their development, but have less availability for travel related to practices and tournament opportunities. Select athletes practice once a week locally during the indoor season and will participate in competitive travel tournaments - either sponsored by USA Field Hockey, regional tournaments hosted by universities, or other travel tournaments, out-of-city and/or out-of-state. Athletes who participate in select are encouraged to be available for all practices and tournament opportunities.

Season: Winter indoor
Ages offered: U12, U14, U16, U19

  • Under-12 Age Classification: Players born after July 31, 2012, are eligible.
  • Under-14 Age Classification: Players born after July 31, 2010, are eligible.
  • Under-16 Age Classification: Players born after July 31, 2008, are eligible.
  • Under-19 Age Classification: Players born after July 31, 2006, are eligible.
Travel requirement: Some travel required for tournaments
Tryouts Dates:
Sunday, October 27th
Sunday, November 3rd
** all athletes will be assigned a 90 minute slot between 9 AM - 4 PM.
** Only those athletes FINISHED with their high school season can attend the first tryout on October 27th!
** You must attend at least one tryout.  It is not mandatory to attend both.  If you have a conflict with both dates, please contact us immediately to make other arrangements.

Any athletes who tryout for select and are not named to the select program will automatically be placed on a regional team and reimbursed any difference in the cost.

Registration includes Select tryouts, all practices, and recruiting and nutrition webinars throughout the season.

Please note: there will be an additional fee that will be invoiced for all tournaments. This fee will be invoiced in November after the rosters are named and tournaments are finalized for each team.

practices

Select Tryouts are:

Sunday, October 27th 12PM - 6PM and Sunday, November 3rd from 12PM-6PM.

Times for tryouts are TBD for each age group.  You only need to attend one of the tryouts.  If you are unable to attend a tryout but interested in participating and getting another chance for selection, please contact us to make arrangements.   

Columbus Select Teams practice at Bill McDonald Gym (4990 Olentangy River Road, Columbus).

Weekly practices are two hours long and will take place on Sunday's.  Exact times for each age group are TBD.  Plan for a two hour block between 12-6PM, subject to changes slightly. 

Practices start on November 10th and end February 16th. 

  • No practices on December 1 (holiday), and December 29 (holiday).

December 15: MWC Tournament at Spooky Nook in Hamilton, OH

January 18 or 19: Potential NITQ (qualification required)

February 8: MWC Tournament at Spooky Nook in Hamilton, OH

February 14-17: U-14 NIT

February 21-23: U19 NIT in VA (qualification required)

February 28-March 2: U16 NIT in PA (qualification required)
